DOMAINE DES HUARDS
GENDRIER Michel et Alexandre
Domaine des Huards is a biodynamic estate in the Loire Valley. For 7 generations, our family has been farming the rare Romorantin grape variety, as well as elaborating unique blends of Sauvignon with Chardonnay, and of Pinot Noir with Gamay. All our wines are estate grown and are part of the Cheverny or Cour-Cheverny AOC.

We farm 42 hectares of vines and we practice biodynamic agriculture for more than 20 years. Bed rock is limestone everywhere on the estate. We also have 37 hectares of land, forest and ponds around our estate for the biodiversity and to protect our vineyard from others who use chemical products. For the upkeep of our prairies, we have fifty sheep of the Solognote breed. Also the sheep are in the vineyard between the end of the harvest and the budding season.
We produce wine only from grapes we farm ourselves and strongly believe that a good wine can only come from a good and healthy fruit. We practice "simple winemaking" since the goal of a terroir and vintage wine is to obtain the best translation from the vineyard to the wine glass.
For several generations, our family has specialised in the very rare Romorantin grape variety. Our oldest plot in production was planted by Eugène Magloire Gendrier in 1922. In 2016, we planted some non-grafted Romorantin, in search of an ever more exclusive taste expression of this grape variety.
